Every Picture Tells a Workcamp Story!

We're rolling out our photo albums from Workcamp tonight! Workcampers, looking through the albums are a great way to share what we experienced at camp with your parents and family- sit down and scroll through with a running commentary! There are two albums to take in, both pretty much in chronological order- one focusing on what happened at our work sites (click here), and the other filling in everything else, an album we call "Downtime" (click here

Crunch Time! Last Minute Notes and Parent Info

As you finish prepping for our trip, read through the first page of the handout at this link. There are a few things you may have missed. Parents, hang on to the link for emergency contact info, location details and crew info like our family groups and roommates. Crunch Time! Meet Your Roommates

Word is that we're staying at Lincoln Christian University, and we'll be housed 3 to a room in their dorms. Each dorm has 2 beds, so somebody will be on a cot or air mattress. Take a look at the room list at this link to see who you'll be bunking with. If you want to contact them to agree which one of you should bring the air mattress, feel free to do so. I suggest rock, paper, scissors to decide who gets the floor!

Crunch Time! Lincoln Food Donation Details

Besides the repair work we do, Workcampers like to make a positive impact on the community in other ways, too. This year all 200 or so Lincoln Workcampers will be bringing staples for the local food pantry. This is an optional donation to Lincoln, it's up to you. If you want to join in, bring your food donation on Saturday night, if possible. We've been asked to bring nonperishable food items, such as: Canned Meat, Broth (beef, chicken or vegetable), Soups, Condiments, Crackers (saltines, oysters, triscuits, etc.), Pantry Staples ( white & brown sugar, baking soda, seasonings), Hygiene items.

Crunch Time! Keeping Our Crew Healthy...

We don't want a COVID outbreak to cut our workcamp week short, so I'd like to have a record of our COVID status. If you are willing to share with me, please respond to your Remind message/text to let me know if you have or have not been vaccinated, and if not, have you tested positive for COVID at some point. Thanks for your trust- I'll keep your medical info private. Call me if you'd rather talk than text.

Crunch Time! What About My Cell Phone?

Our goal for the Workcamp week is to be connected with each other and God, and disconnected from everything back home except our family. To accomplish this, we need to give up our cell phones for the week. This is a big ask, but it's worth it and you will survive! So leave your cell phones at home. If there's a reason this just won't work for you, talk to Tom for an exception.
All adults will have phones they will lend to anyone for calls/communication with their family anytime during Workcamp. For pictures, dig a pocket digital camera out of the back of the closet and charge it up!

Crunch Time! Get Your Workcamp Health Form In

It's super important that each workcamper named below quickly turn in the health form you received with the other Workcamp papers. Please work to get it filled out and returned this weekend. Download the form here or pick up a copy at church to the left of the choir loft. You can return it to to the dropbox on wall by the church office door Sunday morning, or give it to your Family adult leader if you're meeting. Otherwise, just contact me and we'll figure it out!

Form needed from: Ana, Will, Drew, Mary, Hannah, Mason, Andrew, Ellie, Lucia, Gisele, Lorelei, Chris, Megan, Katie, Mel, Sara and Josh.

Crunch Time! Final Update for Lists and Forms

I made a few updates to our packing guides and to-bring lists. Hard copies are in the rack to the left of the choir loft at church (upper level). The main addition is to bring masks for use all week at camp (we don't yet know exactly when we'll be asked to wear them). Also, the July 24th and 25th info at the top is updated. Crunch Time! Updated Packing & Departure Details

We've finalized our packing and departure times, and they differ from what's on your "packing guide" due to the change in our church service times. Here's the update- cross out what's on the packing guide!

Saturday, July 24: All-crew meeting Saturday the 24th 4:30-5:30pm. Bring your tools, sleeping bag and food pantry donation (optional). We'll pack those things along with our crew coolers, 9 Square, etc, then meet briefly and pass out our '21 crew t-shirts.

Sunday, July 25: Arrive at church at 7am- be early, not late! Bring your clothes duffle to pack, your carry-on bag and wear your IYC crew t-shirt. We'll finish packing, meet in our family groups, then be commissioned at the 9am service and leave for camp!

Crunch Time! Dress Code for Workcamp '21

Group Mission Trips has updated their dress code. Read what follows before you pack!

Dress Code: We ask that all participants dress modestly. Although we don’t have an official dress code, we are asking the following:
  • Participants wear closed-toed shoes.
  • Boys wear either long basketball shorts or jeans.
  • Girls wear arm-length shorts (modest)
  • Please do not wear tank tops; t-shirts are great.
  • Every participant should bring a swimsuit; a one-piece (or tankini) modest suit is best for girls.

Bookmark this blog, or better yet, follow it- this is your one-stop place for all the Workcamp info you need and forms that your dog just chewed up.
Need a reminder of what this mission trip is all about? View one of the intro videos in the post below.
Check the sidebar for all the forms, dates, packing lists and our crew, which have been updated for 2021. If you can't see the sidebar, click here to view that stuff.
Look out, Lincoln, we're on a mission from God! The trip starts early Sunday morning, July 25- we'll return home after lunch on the 31st.

Get Inspired- Watch a Workcamp Intro Video!

You'll have a much better idea of what Workcamp is all about when you spend a few precious minutes watching these introductory videos. These are pre-COVID, so there will be a few things that happen differently this summer, but the main message is the same. So grab a parent and tune in to a quick workcamp walk-through (here), then experience workcamp through the voices of workcampers, themselves (here)

WORTH IT Theme Reveal Video

We all struggle at times with a sense of worth or significance. Am I worthy of what I receive? This can be both positive – “Do I deserve the gifts I’ve been given?” Or negative – “Why did this bad thing happen to me?” This summer at Workcamp we'll experience a fresh look at the idea of worth through the parable of the prodigal son. Click here for the theme reveal video!

Understanding the Crew List...

At the bottom of the right sidebar you can see all those who are officially registered so far (click here if you can't see the sidebar). Names with an asterisk are rookie Workcampers, and if you're a rookie, know that we experienced Workcampers respect you for stepping out of your comfort zone to serve in Jesus name! If you think your name should be on the list, contact me right away, and if you haven't turned in your registration form, now's the time!

Workcamp in the Rear View Mirror...

If you're wondering about what this workcamp mission is all about, take a look at the worksite and downtime photo albums from our mission to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2019. Now picture yourself in the upcoming Land of Lincoln Workcamp albums- you'll be lookin' real good!
